Day 31: A Party

Hello, everyone! It's me, Blu. Today, I spent another day with Marissa. I woke up before she did, and waited silently on her bed. When she woke up, she screamed because I was sitting on her neck and staring straight at her. We went downstairs, where, for the second time, I saw Zeus. He grinned at me like he was going to come lick my face again just like the day before. But I did not care he was looking at me. I knew I was safe in the arms of Marissa. I sat with Marissa in the kitchen. She wrote a story for the little kids she watches. I helped a little bit too. At about ten, her dad made us breakfast; eggs, bacon, and toast. We ate quickly because Marissa had to make a card for someone. I found out that she was going to a birthday party, and that she was going to bring me along, too. It took her ten minutes to make a birthday card. "Marissa! We have to go to Safeway and get your friend a gift for her birthday!" Shouted Marissa's father. She picked me up, threw on shoes, and left. Inside Safeway, Marissa bought a gift for the birthday girl, and some apples. Her dad told us we had to go back home. So, off we went.

"Marissa! Get your friend's gift! We have to go now!" Said Marissa's mom. She obeyed her mom, and also took me with her. We pointed out cars that we liked from the car window.

At the party, Marissa and her friends played lazertag. I couldn't go inside, but from what Marissa told me, it sounded like a lot of fun. We ate pizza at the party, too. I met tons of children. After the party, Marissa invited some friends to go to Target, a frozen yogurt shop, and then back to her house. One decided to stay the night, but another was going to go back home later. They all took Zeus and I for a walk to the park. We played on slides, rode scooters, and went on the swings. It began to get dark. We had to, sadly, go back home. Even though it was dark, Marissa and her friends went swimming. Mostly, they went in the hot tub because the pool was too cold. I was not allowed to go in, but I watched them from the eating area Marissa had in her back yard. The hot tub got too hot, so I said that they should go inside. We all went inside and had a huge dance party that lasted an hour! We then ate dinner. We had steak and potatoes! It was very yummy. One friend's mom came to pick her up after, and she left. Marissa had to clean her room, but her other friend and I played piano together. She even taught me a song! Then, Marissa's mom said we had to go to bed. I slept in the bed Marissa had made me the night before, and they slept on the floor in sleeping bags. I nearly fell asleep a moment ago, so I'd better go. But first, let me ask you something. Will what you do with me be as awesome as today, or even better? You decide.

Day 30: Friday Adventures

“Marissa will be taking Blu home today.” Mr Funk said aloud to the class. He tossed me over to Marissa. I had never met Marissa before. She held me gently to make sure she didn't drop me. She told me that we were going to Mrs. Raymond’s classroom for rotations.

“What are rotations?” I asked. “Well, every Friday at the end of the day,” Marissa started to say. “Each class gets to go to a different classroom to be taught by a different fifth grade teacher. And today, we just happen to be going to Mrs. Raymond’s room.” Now that Marissa had told me, I understood what we were doing and where we were going.

“Can somebody please raise their hand and tell me what the main idea of what we just read about was?” I heard Mrs. Raymond say. Marissa was holding me in her lap when one of Marissa’s classmates answered. Just a moment later, the bell rang.

I found myself in the deep dark depths of Marissa’s backpack. I stood up and looked around for something to do. I saw some gum at the bottom of her backpack and immediately started climbing down to get a piece. Just as I finally reached the gum, a hand reached in and grabbed me. I soon found out that Marissa had just pulled me out of her backpack. We were inside of her house already, and I started looking around. I saw two boys who looked about thirteen or fourteen years old. She introduced me to her brothers, John and Cyrus, who were actually the boys I was just looking at. Marissa took into the kitchen where she started looking for a snack. “Stay put,”Marissa said, setting me on the table. “I don’t want you getting lost.” As soon as she turned around, I jumped off the table and ran into the living room. I only wanted to explore. But what I soon found out was that Marissa had a dog, Zeus. I began to shake. I was so scared I couldn't move. The dog was approaching, and I did not know what to do. Soon Zeus was staring straight at me and was about an inch away. I shouted for Marissa to come save me, but she didn't hear me. Suddenly, the puppy licked me all over my face and picked me up. I was hanging from his mouth as he trotted into the kitchen. He skidded into the kitchen and accidentally ran into Marissa. She turned around and commanded Zeus to drop me. Not listening, the puppy ran upstairs and into Marissa’s bedroom. Then he set me down. He pounced around. I stood up and introduced myself nervously.

“Hi, I’m Blu.” I said. Zeus sat down and stared at me. “Good dog. Can I pet you?”I said, this time not as nervously. He barked and I took that as a yes. I approached him slowly. He was calm so I reached out and pet his head. I was normally scared of other animals, but I wasn’t so scared with Zeus. I continued to stroke his head slowly. Then Marissa rushed in. She picked me up quickly. “Zeus! I’ve told you before, you can’t eat my schoolwork!”Said Marissa. She asked me if I was alright, and I was. Marissa took me back downstairs. By now it was five o’clock, and Marissa said that in a little bit we’d go to dinner with her family. I helped Marissa write a story about a handsome bear named Blue. Marissa said it was almost as if we were writing about him. “Nonsense, this bear’s name is spelling with an ‘e’ at the end!”I answered. Marissa’s mom came home and Marissa introduced me to her. Then her parents took us out to dinner. I was so tired from playing with Marissa’s puppy, that I drifted off to sleep.

“Wake up,”Marissa said. “The food is ready.” I found myself inside a sushi restaurant with Marissa’s family. A waitress set down a tray of food, then left. It was an california roll, an avocado roll, and a few other things I can’t pronounce. I ate quickly. By the time I was finished, Marissa and her brothers were finished, too. We all went outside and played tag. Soon, Marissa’s parents came out and we had to go. Again, I fell asleep in the car. When I woke up again, Marissa was carrying me inside the house. “Blu, it’s eight o’clock. I’m going to write a bit more and then we can go to sleep.”She said. Marissa took her writing items and went upstairs to sit at her desk and write. She wrote while I played with her other stuffed animals. My favorite one was a big bunny which I named Rosy. We played hide-and-seek with the other stuffed animals for about an hour. Then, at nine thirty, Marissa said we had to go to sleep. She made me a little bed that I could sleep on with baby blankets and the smallest pillow she could find. After she tucked me in, and she got in bed and turned off the light, Marissa fell fast asleep. I found a computer to use and started writing to you guys. Now it’s about ten thirty and I am getting tired. So I have to go now. Goodnight, friends!

Day 24: Morning Exploration

Good Morning, if when you're reading this and  it's still morning. Today I woke up earlier than Anisha, when I heard she has to wake up at five every school day I thought I'd let her sleep. I wandered around the house when I saw this really nice bed. I walked in and it was a my size house. There was even a tiny computer for me to write this with. When you turn the second bed over it becomes a bath tub literally. I spent a half an hour in their. Blow drying my hair it was perfect.  I even found some carrots and took a bath without water. I even took a 30 second nap.

I even decided to go out when I saw a Pegasus I am not kidding she let me take a picture with her. When I was about to tell her about my trip. Anisha woke up and told em that we were having a banana and apple for breakfast she enjoyed I wondered why she ate so little. After she started getting dressed up AGAIN!. When i asked why she explained to me that when she does a performance we are  to where make noise and sound like music. And she only has 30 bells to dinay they were getting 50 and next time they get 100 I could not even hear that.

After that we got some food I was starving after a small breakfast I had brought some carrots along just in case.  On the car ride home I asked for some egg she said she was not allowed to eat or touch egg for the whole day. Meanwhile I found a friend it was this tiny bunny stuffed bunny in the back of the car we talked for hours but she didn't take a picture with me.
BYE!!

Day 23: Dancing

Hi, Everyone. I went home with Anisha today. I wanted to ask her to show me around but instead she started getting dressed up! Finally after she was all done she told me that we were going to a dance performance and she was in the opening ceremony. I begged her forever, but in the end she let me touch her jewelry. It was so cool, I thought this girl was like going to do homework and go ahead in math. But nope she got right work. I asked if I could come she said sure but only if I promised to stay in her bag after hearing my story with the giraffe she was not going to let me wander of.  I was a little disappointed but said yes. In the car we headed to San Ramon Martial Arts Center. That's when I got confused. You said you were going to dance she told me that they were having a special ceremony and wanted some Bharatnatyam dancers to perform to Korean music. Right when we parked we hoped out of the car and rant to see her friends who were dancing too. They got onstage and they were AWESOME. Anisha was in the very front and was the prettiest one! I was so tired when she was finished I was so tired I fell asleep. Hope to have an even more exciting day tomorrow. Good Night!

Day 22: Another Friend

Hello, Blu here, my adventures were big today! I got to go to Aidan's sweet martial arts studio where I say him punching and kicking. After that I went to Aidan's friend's house and watched Aidan and his friends watch this cool show. I can't remember what it was named. I also went home and helped Aidan with his math homework. But all I could figure out was that there's just a bunch of numbers on the paper so it was hard. But after all these cool adventures I'll bet you I'll know what five plus five is . The last thing we did that day was meet a new friend. He was a big bunny that shedded a lot. So I might come to school tomorrow with a lot of extra  hair that is not mine.

Day 21: Drawing Fun

Me and Vidya had a great day drawing snow man for Christmas. We had superb fun laughing when we were on bed. We also had apple pie when we had dinner. It was so happy with Vidya.

After Vidya slept, I secretly went and I imagined how to draw her. Finally, I was done. I slowly kept it on Vidya's back of the pillow. At morning, I was waiting for Vidya to see my drawing. She saw it and she searched me every where. A few minutes later, I saw her and ran to her. She hugged me so much and kissed my cheeks. It was so nice.

I rushed to door and the Aadra carried me all the way to the park. I thought that the park was to far from our house but, instead it was to close. When we reached the park I was the first one to go to the slide. I asked Aadra why don't this park have big slides. Uh! I have no idea she answered. We played for about Half and hour. When we came back home, I told Aadra that I had really fun playing in the park. Even though the park was too small, but the slides were very slippery.

Day 13: The Great Adventure

Hi guys it's Blu!Today I went home with Christine. When we got to her house the first thing she did was to eat an afternoon snack. I got to eat yummy bear biscuits. They were blue berry flavored and very good.

After I ate, Christine took me upstairs so she could do her homework.Right before she started she told me to sit right there and don't go anywhere without her permission. So I listened to her and sat still. After what felt like hours(actually it was like 10 minutes)I got really bored, so I decided to explore a bit.I know this was breaking the rules, but I just didn't want to sit there because it was just so boring.I mean who likes watching people do their homework.I surely don't.When I was exploring I found this weird shaped box with the smell of the blue berry biscuits. I just had to eat some, so I climbed up the the box, but what I didn't notice was this gigantic hole.

"AAAAHHHHH!!!!!"I said as I was falling down the hole.

As I looked around me after I dropped on the hard floor I landed on, I saw this giraffe next to me. I didn't know what to do, so I just climbed on the giraffe. It kept on running around! After hours of taming it, it finally stopped and I got to ride it peacefully for once. Also I decided I would call it Lilly.

When it got dark I noticed I had to get back to Christine.I looked every where and finally I found the box that took me there. It was hard saying bye to Lilly. Before I jumped in the box, I gave Lilly a big hug and then jumped in.At home I climbed out of the box and saw Christine trying to look for me. I ran to her and said that I was really sorry that I broke the rules. She forgave me.I thought she would get really angry, but she didn't. Yay! Next time I think I will be following the rules no matter what happens.

Day 12: The Jeep

I just saw this huge thing with wheels speeding by.  I was so amazed by how fast it goes and how big the wheels are, so I decided I needed one of my own.  When I finally got it I was so excited to go for a ride.  There was one big thing that I forgot, you kind of need a drivers license to drive.  Oops.  A few hours later,  "Beep Beep!"  I decided to watch a video on how to drive and took an online drivers test.  I passed the test after ten tries.  Now I can go for a ride.  The jeep goes really fast and has a big loud horn.  I really like to go on mountain rides and feel the wind in my fur.

After learning the local area, I decided to explore out further.  I took a trip to L.A. and San Diego.  In L.A. I met so many famous people like Sponge Bob, Captain Jack and Harry Potter.  When I went to San Diego, I went to Sea World and had a great time.  I watched the dolphin and Shamu show.  I was able to feed the sea lions but it was hard not to eat the fish.  The sea lions were doing all these cool tricks to get my attention.

I decided to stay at Paradise Point while I was there.  The reason it was called Paradise Point is because there are all kinds of paradise flowers around the property.  They remind me birds.  There were also long, sandy beaches where I built sand castles.  I also collected sea shells.  I found a cool pond with fish, sharks and sting rays.  I also decided to go paddle boarding.  While I was paddle boarding I saw a ton of jelly fish.  The jelly fish were called Moon Jellies according to boat master.

I had a great time with all the adventures in my new jeep.  I knew I would have a great time after I saw that big car go by and I had my big idea.

I have a question for you.  Do you want a jeep?  Where would you go on your adventure?

Day 11: The Mall

“Wake up Jasleen wake up,” I yelled. I was trying to wake up Jasleen but she wouldn’t budge. Because today was the last day I was staying with her I was determined to do something fun. “Come on wake UP!!!!” Now I really meant it. After a lot of pushing, shoving, tickling, and water spraying she finally woke up. I told her it was the last day that I will be staying with her and I really wanted to do something fun. Jasleen told me that we did something fun and we are going to rest today. I told her that if we didn’t do anything to day then she wouldn’t be able to write anything for the blog. Then her ears stood up. She told me that I would need to wait because she waould have to ask her mom first. Then at breakfast I heard Jasleen’s mom saying that they need to go to the mall anyways. I told Jasleen this and she said that we could go. I was so excited. Jasleen’s mom said that we had to get ready so we both go ready and we were just in time because Jasleen’s mom was ready too. We got packed in the car and were on our way to the mall. Mall here we come!

Day 10: Shreya's House

Hi readers. This time I will tell you about the day I was with Jasleen and we went to her friend's house. Jasleen's friend's name is Shreya and she has a younger brother named Rushil. I was so excited to meet them because I love to mingle. Anyway I was way to excited but Jasleen told me to calm down and to relax because she said that she was going to introduce me to everyone first. When we reached the house we rang the doorbell and a girl a little taller than Jasleen opened the door. Jasleen and I were the first ones to enter. Then Jasleen put me down and went to go say hi to everyone. I thought that she was going to introduce me to everyone but instead she went and said hi on her own. When she came back to me she said that she was going to introduce me to only a few people. Those few people were just the kids meaning Rushil and Sheya. After the introduction all the kids had their own room and the parents were in the living room. We all played for about two hours. Then we all went to Shreya’s basketball game. Shreya scored six shots and their team won 23 by 11. Finally we came back home and had dinner. Then all the kids watched a movie. It was now time to go. Bye Shreya hope to see you soon. We finally reached home after a long drive and I was honestly very tired. "Time to crash," I said to Jasleen. Good night everyone!

Day 9: The Stories of Blue and Jaiveer

Hi guys let me tell you about the day I was at Jasleen's house and spent half the day with Jasleen's brother- the terror- Jaiveer. Cute he is but he isn't very kind with his actions. The whole time we were on the way home from school Jasleen was telling me how much I would like Jaiveer since he is a one year old baby and he loves soft toys. Did you hear that Jasleen called me a soft toy. Yah I know right. I was deeply offended, but let's get back to the story. I was so excited to meet this baby but when I got home the news I received was devastating. Baby Status Report : Sleeping. I couldn't believe it. I was so excited to then find the person I was waiting for sleeping. And this is the worst part : they said he wouldn't wake up until 5:00 pm and it was only 3! After what seemed like forever the baby woke up. I was so excited but Jasleen told me to calm down and said that I can't play with him until he has had his milk. Oh Great another long period or waiting and waiting and waiting. I had one question at that time and it was HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO FINISH A SMALL SIPPER HALF-FULL OF MILK??? At last he was done and I could play with the baby, but don't worry all my body parts were in place after our playing session was over because Jasleen was sitting right there and watching us. After all this fun I need some sleep the best part of today was meeting a new friend.

Day 8: Meeting New Friends....

Hi everybody! Today I visited Hana's house. I had a great time over there and I got to meet not only Hana but three more! The brown bear at the end is Chestnut and at the other end is Sydney. The poodle next to me is Pinkie.
Now, the way I met all my other friends was when Hana put me on her bed since she was doing homework and I found them all over there sitting and talking with each other. I was a little shy at first, but then Sydney called me over and I introduced myself to everyone. Before I knew it we all became good friends having a conversation!
Then Chestnut said,"Why don't we show you around the house?"

We started off with the living room. They showed me the couch area where we had lots of fun bouncing around playing tag. Then we went to the kitchen where they showed me the spots that had their favorite snacks. We went to Hana's parent's bedroom where Pinkie said they sometimes liked to sleepover in.

But Hana found us and said that we could take a picture together in the living room (picture above). After the tour we went into her room and told her about all of the fun we had. Then I realized that was our adventure to tell you guys about!
Well, I had a great time here with her and all my other new friends, Pinkie,Chestnut, and Sydney. We all brushed our teeth and went to bed. But since we all (not including Hana) were still having so much fun and were not tired, we sneaked in a game of Pictionary! After one round we got tired and packed up the game and went to bed. Have you ever meet so many new friends in such a short time? I have, and I'd like to know if you have too!

Day 7: Blu's Adventure in Tomland

Hey guys! Today I spent my day in Tom's house! Now, normally I would go to the person's house, but today Tom took me to...Math Olympiad! I learned stuff like how to find an area of a triangle, how to multiply fractions, and the rules of divisibility! Sujay, my first friend to take me home, was there too! So were a lot of my friends from Mr. Funk's class!

After we got back from Math Olympiad, Tom did his Chinese homework as well as the homework Mr. Funk assigned (I helped a little too).

I also learned how to say hello in Chinese! "你好!" Then Tom went to swim practice. As I waited for Tom's swim practice to end, his mom entertained me with a game of Scrabble! Unfortunately, I lost because Tom's mom said that Blu is the incorrect spelling and that Blue is the right way to spell MY name! Crazy right? After Tom got back, he practiced piano and he played for a good long while. During his song, just when I started actually enjoying it, the playing stopped.

Then Tom came over and examined my left leg. I looked over my shoulder and saw that stuffing was coming out! Oh no! Quickly, Tom's mom took out a sewing needle and started to sew my leg back together.

At the end of this terrifying surgery, my leg was fixed and I couldn't be happier than ever! At 9:00, Tom and I changed into our pj's and brushed our teeth. We got into bed and Tom's mom turned the light off. After fifteen minutes, I fell asleep. I hope whoever takes me to their house will treat me the same way!

Day 6: Another Adventure

Hi! Ever wonder what biographies are all about? Well, here is a page in the story of my life!  I am a relatively happy and content little guy that lives on this shelf in a store for as long as I can remember with others a little like me and a little unlike me.  One fine day, my mundane life took a very interesting turn out of the blue – which by the way is my name - Blu!
Didn’t think much of this tall lean guy who entered our store that day till he suddenly popped up in front of our shelf and peered down at us fellas… My heart sank and I knew I was doomed when his hand alighted on me. I hoped he would pick Michael or the not-much-fun Larry but no, it had to be poor little ME. He picked me up, paid for me and off we went to his house.
Different surroundings, none of my friends around but I adapt well and was just getting comfortable on a much cleaner shelf than at the store I called home, when Mr.Tall (who I later came to know was called Mr. Funk) took me to his school where I realized he must be a teacher and plopped me down in front of a group of students saying one of them got to take me home. What a bunch!  To be fair some were pretty quiet but for the most part, they were a boisterous lot. One even mentioned a dog he owned and I imagined myself in its jaws and cringed.  Even Larry would be better than this but maybe, just maybe I would get lucky and get to go with a kid I had spotted who had this big radiant smile on his face.  But then again, why would I be in this situation if I were that lucky.
Four hours into the day, when my nerves could hardly take the pressure of wondering what horrors awaited me, Mr. Funk handed me over to the kid that I had wanted to be with!  Cool!  Now all I could do was hope and pray the smile wasn’t an act and he was a nice boy who would not feed me to his pet dog.  Sujay put me in his hat and it was pretty comfortable I must say.
After school he took me home and put me on the counter.  Soon I saw him hard at work on his homework. He also worked on his report about me though I did not get a chance to peek at it just then.
An hour later Sujay took me to a math class where I was just listening to them talk.  Just as I was starting to like it, the teacher talked about math being hard and that you have to master it or become its slave.  Uh-oh.  I definitely did not want to deal with this subject. Left it to Sujay but my opinion of him changed from a goofball to a smart one.
Sujay then took me along to his martial arts class. WOW! I would not have guessed from his friendly and talkative nature, but this kid is one of those cool black belts.  I sat and watched forgetting to even blink. There was kicking and punching and I got to see another side of Sujay. I always dreamed of being someone to be looked up to and not treated like an unimportant, silly blue bear. So I decided that in my next life, if I was born a human, I would become a black belt.  Nice aspiration, right?
Now that was my day. If all the kids in Mr. Funks class show me all their good sides like Sujay did who I now think of as my buddy, I think I will be pretty happy making their classroom my new home!

Day 5: Snowmen!

A few days ago I was playing with my friend, Geoffrey. (He's a giraffe.) We played all sorts of exciting games: hide and seek, tag, billiards, and war!

Suddenly, Geoffrey looked up and said, "I think we should go to the snow!"

Already being a bit chilly, I was not very excited about his idea and suggested that we didn't. But he insisted. So we left.

After what seemed like hours and hours in the car, we finally arrived. Several strange looking animals greeted us at the car door. (Later, we would find out that they call themselves "Snowmen" although they were not actually men.)

Together, we made snow angels, had a snowball fight, and went sledding. It was a great adventure and we can't wait to do it again!

Day 4: Into the Woods...er...Classroom

As you may know, teachers have a funny connection with their classroom. It's almost as if they live there or something! Well, Mr. Funk wanted to try something different in the classroom. He said, "It's a new year; let's do something new! Maybe we'll have a party!" So all of the tables were pushed to the side and the chairs were stacked on top of them.

"That should do it!" he said.

As he was moving the furniture, I was thinking to myself about all the adventures his students would have without tables and chairs. They could lay on the floor! Or play human foosball! The only think that would make this even better would be couches! (Maybe a snack bar...)

I helped him organize the mess of papers that were sitting on the counter for so long. (Look how nice the counter where I'm sitting is now!) Then we left. It wasn't a terribly exciting afternoon, but he was happy to get some of the work done.

In the car on the way back, he told me the WORST news! All of the tables and chairs would be back in place for the students in the new year. I had missed the party! They were only going to vacuum the floor. I was so disappointed!

He told me that he was sorry, that I had missed the party and that, as much as he liked the idea of couches and a snack bar he didn't think that it would happen. Bummer. However, he did say that we should be expecting a surprise some time in January and that he was very excited about it.

I wonder what it could be. Do you have any ideas? I know the purpose of a surprise is to be, well, surprised, but I want to know!

Thinking about what it could be,

Day 3: The Dentist

Since we had a few days off from school, Mr. Funk decided that it would be a good opportunity for us to go visit the dentist. (He has trouble getting to appointments like that during the week.) You see, for whatever reason, someone decided that brushing and flossing wasn't enough. No. You are supposed to have someone else clean your teeth!

Can you imagine doing that? What if someone bites you or if they really need to sneeze while you're working in their mouth? It isn't really possible to say "Excuse me, but I need to sneeze!" while someone has both hands and tools between your teeth. You might try to say that, but it sounds like "Arrge meh, bught aii eed a eezz," and by then it is too late!

Well, they gave me my own chair, though it was a little too big for me. The hygienist was friendly, but kept asking me questions. It's not like I could respond, but she nodded "uh-huh" and "I see..." Most of the time I just looked up at the paintings in the ceiling. (We don't go to one of the fancy dentists that give you head phones or a movie to watch while they work on your teeth.)

My favorite part was when they showed me the computer next to the chair. Apparently, Mr. Funk has gone to this dentist since he was little and they had a picture of him...from when he was about seven or eight years old! That really confused one of the new workers last time he went in, as she was expecting a young child! She took a new picture of him to update the record, but I guess they decided to keep his old picture instead. (I won't post that picture of him on here so he doesn't get to embarrassed.)

At the end of the appointment, we found out the neither of us had any cavities! They gave us a toothbrush, tiny tube(travel size?) of toothpaste, and some floss, with the instructions that the floss was for use on teeth, not building cool contraptions. (Mr. Funk used to make some pretty nifty things with that floss...)

The dentist was not scary like I had thought it would be. I guess that the visit goes much better if you brush and floss everyday, more than once. Do you like going to the dentist or is it a scary experience for you? What have you made out of floss? (I mean, don't build things with floss. Use it for your teeth...)

Day 2: Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve

I don't know about you, but one of my favorite things to do is go hiking. We are fortunate that there are many great areas that are only a short drive away. On this day, we went to the Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve in San Jose.

There is a new entrance to the area that we decided to check out. It has only a few parking spaces, but there were only a few people there. From the parking lot, you can see a large portion of Silicon Valley. To the north you can see the San Francisco Bay; we could clearly see both Route 84 and 92 from where we stood. West of us we looked over San Jose and Santa Clara, toward the hills farther out than Saratoga. South of us, we could see farther than we could identify, perhaps into Morgan Hill or Gilroy? Our most restricted view was to the east, where we saw more hills that were part of the range we were on.

As we started our hike, we were not sure what to expect; none of us had been on the trails here before. It was fairly level, but there was a large drop-off to the side if we weren't careful. I wanted to pose with one of the wild cows (see picture above) so we stopped for a bit. She decided to get a bit closer than we had anticipated.

All along the tail we enjoyed views of the Valley and the (currently) green hills. There were conversations that I could have participated in, but, being the simple bear that I am, I decided to just absorb everything around me. There were a few bikers that passed us, but except for them, and a few cows, it was just us. I really liked the solitude.

It was starting to get late, so we decided to go back to the car. The sun started to set as we were on the way back, so we snapped a few pictures, but had to hurry because the park was closing. We made it back just as the park ranger was closing the first gate.

It was a great time for all. If you're ever in the area, I'd strongly suggest checking it out! Are there other places I should hike? Let me know or bring me along!
