Day 3: The Dentist

Since we had a few days off from school, Mr. Funk decided that it would be a good opportunity for us to go visit the dentist. (He has trouble getting to appointments like that during the week.) You see, for whatever reason, someone decided that brushing and flossing wasn't enough. No. You are supposed to have someone else clean your teeth!

Can you imagine doing that? What if someone bites you or if they really need to sneeze while you're working in their mouth? It isn't really possible to say "Excuse me, but I need to sneeze!" while someone has both hands and tools between your teeth. You might try to say that, but it sounds like "Arrge meh, bught aii eed a eezz," and by then it is too late!

Well, they gave me my own chair, though it was a little too big for me. The hygienist was friendly, but kept asking me questions. It's not like I could respond, but she nodded "uh-huh" and "I see..." Most of the time I just looked up at the paintings in the ceiling. (We don't go to one of the fancy dentists that give you head phones or a movie to watch while they work on your teeth.)

My favorite part was when they showed me the computer next to the chair. Apparently, Mr. Funk has gone to this dentist since he was little and they had a picture of him...from when he was about seven or eight years old! That really confused one of the new workers last time he went in, as she was expecting a young child! She took a new picture of him to update the record, but I guess they decided to keep his old picture instead. (I won't post that picture of him on here so he doesn't get to embarrassed.)

At the end of the appointment, we found out the neither of us had any cavities! They gave us a toothbrush, tiny tube(travel size?) of toothpaste, and some floss, with the instructions that the floss was for use on teeth, not building cool contraptions. (Mr. Funk used to make some pretty nifty things with that floss...)

The dentist was not scary like I had thought it would be. I guess that the visit goes much better if you brush and floss everyday, more than once. Do you like going to the dentist or is it a scary experience for you? What have you made out of floss? (I mean, don't build things with floss. Use it for your teeth...)
